Gerald Freda

Chief Operating Officer

Gerald Freda has served in the captioning and accessibility industry since 1984. As CaptionMax's COO, Gerald serves as the company's chief problem solver, developing solutions and structure that enables the company to remain nimble, flexible, and quickly respond to marketplace demands.

In this role, Gerald oversees and manages all ongoing day-to-day CaptionMax operations, including real-time captioning, offline captioning, audio description, and multimedia accessibility. He is responsible for managing the company's financial goals and objectives. Gerald charts the strategic planning of the company, exploring new market opportunities and how current and new technology can be integrated with company goals.

Gerald attended North Carolina State University majoring in Business Administration and Mathematics. He also earned an Associate degree from Pennsylvania Technical Institute in Specialized Electronics, broadcast video, personal computers. He was part of the testing and development of the set top decoders prior to the Decoder Circuitry Act. Gerald's history, passion and experience in the accessibility field is used to constantly improve CaptionMax's daily workflow efficiencies and foster creativity throughout the company.

Gerald is a co-publisher of the National Association of Broadcasting (NAB) Engineering Handbook article "Closed Captioning Systems." He also holds two patents related to encoding and displaying captions.

Recently, Gerald assisted in the renovation and build-out of the new LEED-compliant headquarters in Minneapolis as a follow up to his role in designing the CaptionMax Burbank facility.

When not working at CaptionMax, Gerald serves as Director of his local community's Recreation Committee, helps raise funds for the local youth sporting, social events and is a blood cell donor for cancer patients.
