Kate Schlagel

Audio Describer

Kate grew up in Eagle River, Wisconsin where kids rode snowmobiles to school and got time off to hunt deer. At the ripe age of 18, she moved to Minnesota where she soon discovered that not all states sell fireworks, gourmet cheeses in gas stations, and liquor on Sundays. She graduated college with an English degree and started as an audio describer at CaptionMax a week later. After three years, Kate still enjoys describing television for the blind, even if it means watching a lot of craft shows.

Over the last three years, Kate has traveled to Paris, run two half marathons, become a quasi-vegetarian, seen her favorite band (Phish) six times, knit her first sweater, re-discovered hula hooping, and married her college sweetheart. In the future, Kate wants to travel more, grow her first garden, try her hand at rock climbing, do more yoga, and own a house.
