Accessibility Symbols

These are public domain symbols. We encourage you to use them in your packaging or content lists. Here are some quick definitions:

  • AD: Audio Description. The practice of providing additional narration describing a program’s visual elements.
  • ADe: Enhanced Audio Description. Enhancements to standard audio description to enable a richer information experience. Enhancements may include freeze-frame description and auditory cues to interactive links, among other features.
  • CC: Closed Captioning. The practice of inserting all dialogue and other sound effects in text form along with additional information such as speaker identification and tone of voice.
  • CCe: Enhanced Captioning. Enhancements to captions or subtitles to provide both a richer viewing experience and greater flexibility for the teacher or user. Enhancements may include choices of different reading speeds and interactive links to glossary terms, among other features.
