Accessible Media

Over the last ten years, the amount of programming that's been made accessible through captioning and audio description has increased exponentially. However, while the law requires broadcast networks to caption their shows (see the FCC page for more info), there are no comparable requirements for movie theatres, DVDs, classroom videos, or other public uses of media. So a lot of people ask us: "Where can I find accessible media, and how can I avoid non-accessible programming?" To see schedules and listings of accessible programming, try some of these links.

Visit our multimedia page to learn how we're breaking new ground in making educational media accessible, and for a list of titles of fully accessible educational media.

From here, sign in using a yahoo profile, select your local cable operator or broadcast area, and a full schedule will appear with "CC" after the program title to indicate closed captioning and "DVS" to indicated "Descriptive Video Service" or Audio Description. (You may want to use your browser's search function to search for "DVS" then back up to let your reader scan the associated program.)
